Dancesports Silay Wins Championship
Dancesports Silay team representing Area III, both high school and elementary, won 1st place in the Palarong Panlalawigan Competition after defeating other teams from different areas at the Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center, Barangay V, Silay City, December 18, 2018.
Sean Frederick Palaras and Kyla Shane Caballero, both grade 10 students of Dona Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School, were hailed victors after winning bronze in rhumba, silver in cha-cha-cha, and gold in jive, all under the Latin Dance Junior Category E.
James Perales and Jelai Belmonte, also grade 10 students of DMLMHS, grabbed the gold medal in the Latin Dance Junior Category C and D, where both performed cha-cha-cha, jive, and rhumba.
Jeann Loraine Jasou Lester Givera grabbed the gold medals in the Modern Standard Junior Category E in which both danced waltz, tango, and quickstep.
The elementary contenders Alisa Mae Tolentino and Jedrick Wyn Genovea competed in the Latin Dance Juvenile Category C where they also won the gold medal.
Coaches Ronnie S. Gumia and Jason Calalas, teachers of DMLMHS and Silay South Elementary School respectively, together with trainers Frances Dela Paz, Phillip Deocadez, Thea Nicole Azuro, Anthony Arbolante, took time to hone and prepare the dancers.
“After the Area Meet, nagtinguha guid kami sang mga bata nga ma-train kag maka-practice sila, kag maayo man kay nagpay-off and amon effort,” Gumia said.
As part of their training routines, trainers had their dancers do ballet executions to improve their lines and projection, and hip-hop to increase their tension and power. As constant reminder, their coaches always remind them to always focus on the dance and avoid anything that would distract them.
“Wala lang guid anay sila pulaw kag barkada asta matapos ang Palaro para maka-focus guid sila sa ila saot,” quoted Gumia.
Dancers constantly receive vitamins for added nutrition, and they meditate to relax the mind and body.

Silay Swimmers Notch to Regional Meet
Nine (9) swimmers from Silay City representing Area III won 1st place in the recently concluded Palarong Panlalawigan held at Panaad Park and Stadium, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City yesterday, December 19, 2018.
Swimmer Alexi Kou Cabayaran, Grade 6 pupil of Silay South Elem. School , won gold in all seven events she participated, including the 200-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter relay, 100 – meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly stroke, 200 – meter freestyle relay, and 50-meter freestyle.
Cabayaran was with Denisse Octoso, Marianne Apdo, Chrisella May Los Banez in the 200-meter relay where they finished the entire relay at 2:27.14. Apdo won gold in the 50-meter breast stroke and 100- meter breast stroke, while Los Banez followed in second where she won silver in the same event.
Los Banez, Trixie Ann Donesa, Castillo, and Cabayaran finished gold in the 200-meter freestyle relay while Jul Glaiza Garci, Donesa, Marianne Apdo and Cumawas Dhelxie Rees coped silver in the 400-meter-medley relay.
Ma’am Farrah Joan D. Paez, being the winning coach of the athletes, shall then again bring the athletes to the higher level of swimming competition.

AREA III Elementary Volleyball Boys Bags Provincial Championship
The volleyball boys of Area III dominated the championship held at Montalvo Gym after defeating Area IV with the score 2 out 3 sets during the Provincial Meet 2018 and shall proceed to the Regional Meet to be held at the Province of Capiz on February next year.
Coach Anna Marie Bermejo and Assistant Coach Warren Bronola, teachers of Mambulac Elementary School and Silay South Elementary School respectively, expressed their pride after winning the championship tilt.
“This is the first time after many years that the elementary volleyball boys of Area III won the gold and are ry vto represent the province of Negros Occidental to the regional meet next year,” said Ma’am Bermejo
The game started off losing during the first set after getting the score of 23/25 but they were able to win the next two sets, which paved their way to the championship.
The team is composed of boys coming from different elementary schools within the area III, including HPCO, Adela, Silay South, Silay North, Tayabas, Colegio San Nicolas de Tolentino – Recoletos, and Mambulac.
After the team won in the Area Meet held at the Municipality of EB Magalona, Trainer Rollen Villanueva doubled his effort to train the team 4-6 hours a day at the basketball court in Guadalupe Village, Barangay V, Silay City to prepare the boys for the higher level meet.
“Nami sang team kay bisan ginpang-impon ang mga boys pagkatapos sang selection process nga halin sa different schools, wala gid sila nagpaindis-indis. Naga-unite sila kag respeto guid ang gina-remind ko sa ila kay amo na ang makapadaog sa aton,” Villanueva said.
He also emphasized that no matter who would be their opponents, the team should stay united and never let their guard down.
The team is now planning out for their next higher competition against the other teams from the different provinces in the Western Visayas.

Area III Delegation Conducts Tree Planting
Area III delegation composed of Silay City, Talisay City, Murcia, EB Magalona and Victorias City took part in caring for nature and preserve Mother Earth. The team planted about 100 seedlings at the venue, Andres Bonifacio Elementary School I, Bacolod City, December 18 afternoon.
The tree planting activity was a way of showing gratitude of the 3rd District delegation to ABES 1 for accommodating the group during the 2018 Provincial Meet.
The activity started with a prayer led by Mark Anthony Ofamen, Nurse II of the Division of Silay City followed by a message of Eva G. Trabado, EPS in MAPEH and Sports Coordinator of Silay City Division. She reiterated the importance of trees to the ecological balance as well as its benefits and its purpose to the future generations.
The activity was boosted by the participants’ reading of the poem “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer and the singing of the song “ Masdan Mo ang Kapaligiran” by Asin.
The event was closed with the putting up tarpaulin covering the tree planting area to protect the seedlings so that it can grow for several years.

Silay conducts BSP Advancement Camp
The Department of Education, Division of Silay City conducted a 4-day Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Advancement Camp at Unson Mountain Spring Resort, Brgy. Patag, Silay City, October 19-22, 2018.
The activity aims to provide scouts with opportunities to work on their rank requirements through various activities; develop scout’s skills that will improve oneself; and foster camaraderie among Scouts from the other schools of the Division of Silay City.
Spearheaded by Eva G. Trabado, EPS –MAPEH, Division BSP Coordinator and Albino A. Berioso, MT1-Most Outstanding BSP Scout Master 2014, and the support of Supt.Ma. Roselyn J. Palcat, the activities were planned and anchored on Presidential Proclamation No. 1326, s. 1974 designating October 1974 and every year thereafter as National Scouting Month throughout the country.
The camp was opened with a ceremonial parade and a short program highlighted by the Search for Lakan ng BSP 2018. Declared winners were Junior Scout Gabriel D. Sudayan and Senior Scout Jay Em Cutanda. Best in parade and Indigenized Rhythm Band were garnered by District III and Unit III.
Investiture Ceremony by district was conducted to all scouts who were qualified for the next higher rank both junior and senior. Advancement scheme is on going until day 3 and if the scouts will pass all activities, they will be qualified to join the court of honor to receive the badge.
Advancement requirements for Boy Scouts include Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st class while Senior Scouts, Explorer, Path finder, outdoorsman and Venturer.
Trabado had coordinated with Silay City Local Government, DRRM, Brgy. Patag Tanods, Regional Mobile Group, Bagtic headquarters, City Engineer’s Office for the safety, peace and order and the installation of water and lights facilities of the site.#

School Heads attend LOA
Schools Heads of DedpEd Silay attended a 3-day Basic Training Course for Leaders of Adults (LOA) at Brgy.Patag Elem. School, October 19-21, 2018.
The activity aims of :to identify one’s role, functions and responsibilities to facilitate the attainment of the BSP Mission; develop a plan for the effective delivery of the sectional program of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines; recognize and elucidate why scouting can be an effective contributor to the solution of the ills of the present day of Philippines society; and participate actively in a Commitment Ceremony as an outward sign of decision to accept
fully and responsibly, Scouting, its mission, its principles, the scout method, and the policies of the BSP.
Participants to this activity are all school heads both in public and private schools of this division who have not undergone any BSP training. The attendees were divided into groups and discussants come from the Negros Occidental BSP Council headed by Leader Trainer Roberto Maguad.
Participants brought their own tentage, type “A or B” BSP uniform, personal belongings, medicines and toiletries.
A total of 37 school heads enjoyed the sessions and activities and all are eager to attend the Woodbadge training.

Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan Opens
The 2018 Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan was officially opened, Dec.16, 2018, with the Athletic Parade at Panaad Sports and Cultural Center, Bacolod City.
Delegates from Districts 1 to 6, Bacolod City, NOPSSCEA and ANOPSSAI as well as Provincial and Local Government Delegation Heads joined the parade followed by a Program.
The program started with the entrance of colors led by the NOHS CAT Ceremonial Troupe followed by national anthem and a prayer song led by Division of Negros Occidental Teachers Chorale. The Negros Hymn was led by NOHS SPA Students. Hon. Evelio R. Leonardia, Mayor of Bacolod City gave his welcome address represented by his executive assistant.
The hoisting of Negros Occidental Provincial Athletic Association banner was headed by Hon. Alfredo Maraṅon Jr, Governor of Negros Occidental, represented by Angel “ Nonong” Verdeflor, Provincial Sports Coordinator, together with Portia M. Mallorca, PhD, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent of Negros Occidental Division, followed by the hoisting of the delegation banners headed by the congressman of each district, local government officials and Schools Division Superintendent or Public Schools District Supervisor.
Janine P. Pialan, 2017 NOPSSCEA Vocal Solo Champion and a participant in the World Championship of Performing Arts entertained the crowd with her song. The entrance of 2018 Palarong Panlalawigan Torch and Lighting of the Urn followed led by the different athletes representing each district.
To give their commitment in sports, athletes have their oath of amateurism led by Thelma Rose L. Tiangson, Gold Medalit, Taekwondo in South Korea. Romeo C. Sison, Jr., Negros Occidental Division Sports Supervisor, led the oath of commitment of the Officiating Officials for fair and just play in all events.
Ma. Gemma M. Ledesma, Ph. D, CESO V and the OIC Regional Director of Department of Education Region VI gave her message to everybody. The 2018 Palarong Panlalawigan was officially opened by Portia M. Mallorca, PhD, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent, Negros Occidental Division. The releasing of doves led by Verdeflor and SDS Mallorca coupled with dance of NOHS SPA students symbolizes unity, cooperation and sportsmanship.
The opening program was highlighted with a ground demonstration of Masskara Festival Dance of ETCS II pupils, Tinabu-ay Festival Dance of Lopez Jaena National High School students and a mass dance from Valladolid National High School students.
The deans of ceremony were Marijoy I. Vestil, Allen Khen G. Estrella, Rogie P. Bacosa, senior high school teachers from Negros Occidental High School and Dannie Clark M. Uguil, EPS- Science.

Silay City and the Municipality of Murcia delegates converged at Andres Bonifacio Elementary School I, Bacolod City for the Provincial Meet 2018, December 16-22, 2018.

Guarte, Silay working committees came to ABES I two days prior to the actual opening of the said event to prepare the billeting area for athletes, coaches, officials and guests who will stay until the duration of the meet.
Dinah Layo, accommodation committee chair, re - structured each room for the delegates to give comfort and convenience.
Ways and means head Severino Piňol, ensured that physical foundations and electrical structures are established around the billeting area, including a water and sewer system for washing and cooking.
The Clean and Green committee chaired by Rey Anthony Lim redesigned and repainted the surrounding area including and erected tarpaulin of the mayors of Area III and Congressman Alfredo “Albee” Benitez.
Food committee chaired by Mat Empleo planned and prepared the menu while maintain standards in providing nourishment for the athletes and guests.
Mr. Roy Balinas and the transportation and security committee made sure that all delegates are brought to and fro ABES-I safely.
In the event that there are untoward incidents, the medical team headed by Dr. Maria Eden P. Orpeza prepared the needed medicines and items for the health and welfare of both delegation and other committees.
Altogether, the Silay delegation is prepared to conquer the provincial meet hoping to grab a slot for the regional competition to be held this coming 2019.

Trabado leads TWGs preparation for Area III Meet
Eva G. Trabado, Education Program Supervisor (EPS), MAPEH, DepEd Silay City Division, led Silay City delegates to the 2018 Area 3 Meet Athletic Meet to the host venue, Municipality of E.B. Magalona, Nov. 13, 2018.
Trabado was joined by the Technical Working Group (TWG), Food committee, Ways and Means to prepare the area assigned to Silay City. The whole Silay City team occupies the right side back portion of the E.B. Magalona High School Main Building. Welcome tarpaulin, mess halls, sleeping quarters, temporary comfort rooms and bath, kitchen and guest room were prepared by the respective teams. Bamboo poles with multi-colored flaglets were posted around the area and hallways occupied by the whole Silay delegation. Among the advance TWGs who managed the preparation of the venue were: Food Committee: Chairman- Mat Empleo, Co-Chair- Eron Montecastro, members- Febe Ganoyo, Joebert Aguilar, Romeo Fernandez, Renato Dela Vega, Lina Cordero, Raquel Jocson, Glenda Austria, Rene Latoza, Evangelyn Braza and 7 other non-DepEd personnel. The Ways and Means is composed of Severino Piňol as Chairman and Stephen Silario, member. Transportation was facilitated by the group of Roy Balinas, Chair, Jemon Sandoval, Joebert Laňuhan and Eddie Gonzales,members. Concept design, arrangement of the venue and set up of the halls were assisted by the Clean and Green/ Accommodation Committee chaired by Rey Anthony Lim and his members, Ruby Ann Tizon, Dinah Layo, Vangieleyn Britanico, Orwen Jopson, Roderick Ortega, Kenneth Gerongca, Dante Aoquina, Cesar Layese and Teddy Aňalucas. 2-Day Seminar Workshop on Organic Farming/Bio Intensive Gardening and Project Making was a great pool of learning for teachers teaching Agriculture, Industrial Arts and Home Economics
This 2-Day Seminar Workshop on Organic Farming/Bio Intensive Gardening and Project Making was a great pool of learning for teachers teaching Agriculture, Industrial Arts and Home Economics. It started with the usual opening program and messages followed by the overview of the training given by the lead person himself Mr. Rommel C. Fuentes, EPS 1 in EPP/TLE. This training aims to enhance the teachers’ knowledge and skills in gardening and project making. It also develops awareness to all participants the importance of intensive gardening that could also augment to the needs of the school’s feeding program. Other speakers such as Mr. Rodney Siodena of SSES, showed video clips of best practices and helpful tips on Bio-Intensive Gardening likewise, the Principal herself Mrs. Althea M. Pagunsan who also explained extensively about Integrated School Nutrition Model. Both topics and presentation really inspired the participants to somehow bring the same good practices in their schools. The afternoon sessions touched on the Project Making of Bamboo Craft by Mr. Reynaldo Ofamen, Plastic Craft by Ms. Jhalamae G. Sales and Paper Craft by Mr. Orwen C. Jopson. From the discussions and viewing of sample projects, the participants were able to make interesting creation or outputs by themselves. These learning if taught or introduced to the students , would also challenge their creativity and enhance their skills in crafting their own projects and hopefully could somehow give them some earnings. This is all about improving livelihood thru crafts. |
The 2nd Day of the training was done at Negros Occidental Demo Farm, Brgy. Tabunan, Bago City, which proved to be more learning in terms of Organic Farming. The speakers Mr. Arsenio De la Torre, Agriculturist IV has discussed thoroughly the importance of organic farming for healthy food production and Mrs. May Billena Agriculturist II, followed up with several topics about intensive gardening, types of soil that is ideal for a certain plants and other relevant information. After the two speakers, we ended the training by a short closing program with a challenge from Sir Rommel Fuentes then acceptance by the teachers and the giving of certificates. CLEA L.
